When your pet passes on, will you?

Replace it, depending on your age? I've always had cats and my current lovey is 12 years old, but I don't see myself with another cat. We've been talking about having a dog, and at this stage in our lives we are healthy enough and have enough money to properly care for a dog, but I'm a little afraid of upsetting my very shy cat. And I know she's got another several good years ahead of her. What do you think? We have a large yard and could easily put up a dog run.
